Frequently asked
Do I really need a specific cable for my PS5 / Xbox / 4K TV?
Yes — and the difference is bigger than the cables aisle suggests. Modern consoles output 4K at 120Hz, which needs HDMI 2.1 with at least 48Gbps bandwidth. A “premium” HDMI cable from 2018 won’t do it. The Cable Finder above tells you exactly which cable spec to look for once you pick your devices.
Do expensive HDMI cables make a difference
Above a certain spec threshold, no. HDMI is digital — the picture either arrives intact or it doesn’t. A correctly-rated $15 cable performs identically to an $80 cable carrying the same signal. What matters is the spec rating (Standard, High Speed, Premium High Speed, Ultra High Speed) and the cable length. Pay for the rating you need; ignore the marketing on top.
What’s the difference between USB-C and Thunderbolt?
USB-C is the connector shape. Thunderbolt is one of several protocols that can run over a USB-C connector. Two USB-C ports can look identical and have completely different capabilities — one might do 240W power delivery and 8K display, another might do basic 480Mbps data and that’s it. Each device page on Cablebabe lists which protocols its USB-C ports actually support.
Why isn’t there a chat / search bar / AI cable assistant?
Because the Cable Finder is the assistant. It uses the same device + connector + capability data we’d type into any chatbot — directly, without the hallucination layer. Pick two devices, get a verified answer.
