Entry 7.2 channel AVR that tops out at a 5.1.2 Atmos layout. All five HDMI ports are 2.0b at 18 Gbps with HDCP 2.2: 4K at 60 Hz, HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG pass through every input. eARC is on the HDMI TV OUT only, and it is not always ready out of the box. Sony says a receiver whose output jack is printed ARC needs a software update first, after which eARC must be switched on under HDMI in the menu; a jack already printed eARC/ARC is current. Only the front two speaker channels get binding posts. The other five are spring clips that accept wire up to 1.5 mm, so heavy gauge speaker cable will not fit. Two mono RCA sub pre-outs allow a stereo or dual sub setup. The front USB is power only and plays nothing. No Ethernet, no Wi-Fi and no phono input: a turntable needs an external phono preamp.
