Embed the Cablebabe device search

Paste two lines into any page and your visitors get a device search box. They type what they own — a PS5, a MacBook Air, an LG C4 — and see its ports and a link to the full page here, where the Cable Finder works out which cable fits. Free, no account, no API key.

Drop it into a Custom HTML block, a sidebar widget, a Shopify section, or straight into a template. That is the whole install — there is nothing to configure.

If you would rather have one line, put the attribute on the script tag instead:

Both work. We recommend the first one, because the attribution link is then ordinary HTML that is there whether or not the script ever runs.

What it does to your page

  • No CSS bleed, in either direction. The widget renders inside a Shadow DOM, so your stylesheet cannot reach into it and its styles cannot leak out onto your page.
  • Under 8 KB, no dependencies. No jQuery, no framework, no analytics library, no cookies, nothing written to the visitor’s browser.
  • It loads asynchronously. Nothing about it blocks your page rendering, and if our server is slow or unreachable your page is unaffected — the widget simply shows a short message.
  • It follows the visitor’s colour scheme. Light on a light page, dark on a dark one.
  • Search terms reach our server — they have to, that is how the search answers — but they are not tied to a visitor, and we set no identifier of any kind. Result links carry utm_source=widget and your domain, so we can see which embeds people actually use.

Terms, in full

Use it on any site, commercial or not, as many times as you like. One condition: keep the “Powered by Cablebabe” link, and keep it followable. No rel="nofollow", no rel="sponsored", no hiding it with CSS. That link is what the widget costs, and it is the only thing we ask for.

We may change or retire the widget. If we do, the script keeps working for at least 90 days after we say so here, and a broken script degrades to nothing rather than to an error on your page.

Questions, or a device we are missing

We cover a few hundred devices and add more constantly. If the widget cannot find something your customers own, tell us and we will research it properly — see how we verify port data for what that means.
