Synology's 2025 eight-bay Plus NAS brings dual 2.5GbE networking to the prosumer tier and scales to 18 bays using two rear USB-C expansion ports for DX525 units. That expansion link runs at USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) speed, so fully loading both units can bottleneck throughput. Three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports cover external drives and UPS. A PCIe slot accepts an optional 10GbE or 25GbE add-in card, but that card is not a fitted port on the base unit.
