Synology DS124 (2024)

Synology's entry-level single-bay DiskStation keeps connectivity deliberately simple: one RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet jack for the network and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) Type-A ports for external backup drives or a UPS. There is no USB-C, no HDMI, and no expansion eSATA — this is a network-only appliance, so the single cable that matters most for everyday use is a Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet lead. The two USB-A ports run at 5 Gbps, fast enough to copy to a portable SSD without the port being the bottleneck.

Single-bay Synology NAS with one Gigabit Ethernet port and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports for backups; no USB-C or HDMI.
