Sega Mega-CD (Model 1, 1991)

The Sega Mega-CD Model 1 — sold as the Sega CD in North America — is the front-loading CD-ROM add-on that docks under the Genesis Model 1 via the console's right-side expansion connector. Audio handling is the most interesting bit of its rear panel: two RCA stereo outs for the CD-mixed audio, plus two RCA stereo ins for the optional 'audio mixing cable' that takes the Genesis's front-panel 3.5mm headphone output and feeds it into the CD unit so a single set of speakers can hear both the Genesis and CD chips. Power is a proprietary AC adapter inlet.

Sega’s 1991 front-loading CD-ROM add-on for the Genesis Model 1 — stereo RCA audio out, RCA audio line-in for the Genesis mixing cable, and a side expansion connector.

Notes & Compatibility

Rear: 2x RCA stereo audio out (L+R, modelled as one RCA Stereo Audio entry), 2x RCA audio line-in (L+R, modelled as one RCA Stereo Audio entry — sourced from the Genesis Model 1 front headphone jack via the included mixing cable), proprietary AC adapter inlet (Sega MK-1602 PSU — not modeled, no user-cable equivalent). Left side: edge expansion connector that mates with the Genesis Model 1’s right-side I/O — not modeled as a user-cable port. No video output of its own; video passes through the Genesis.
