SNK Neo Geo AES (1990)

The 1990 Neo Geo AES is the home version of SNK's arcade hardware — a luxury console that shipped at $649.99 with arcade-grade cartridges and the same JAMMA-style microswitched joystick used in cabinets. Video is sent over a proprietary 8-pin DIN A/V port that carries composite, RGB and stereo audio simultaneously; the same port is the basis for both standard A/V cables and aftermarket SCART/RGB cables. The front panel offers two 15-pin controller ports, a memory-card slot (JEIDA-spec) and a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack with volume; the rear adds a 9V DC barrel jack.

SNK’s 1990 Neo Geo AES outputs RGB and composite over one proprietary 8-pin DIN AV port, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack and JEIDA memory-card slot.

Notes & Compatibility

Year reflects the 1990 Japanese / North American launch. The Neo Geo AES A/V port is a proprietary 8-pin DIN that carries composite video, RGB and stereo audio simultaneously — the same physical port produces composite or RGB SCART output depending on which cable you buy. Memory cards use the JEIDA ver.3 68-pin spec and are cross-compatible with Neo Geo arcade cabinets (saves can move between AES and arcade). Uses proprietary connectors not yet in the database (AV out, controller, memory card, cartridge slot, DC barrel jack) — placeholder names for the post-batch connector-creation pass.
