Sony PlayStation (Original PSX, 1994)

The original Sony PlayStation kicked off the disc-based console era and shipped with the proprietary Sony AV Multi Out — the same connector that would later anchor the PS2 and PS3 Fat. Stock video is composite at 480i over RCA; you can unlock RGB up to 240p/480i with an aftermarket SCART or component cable into the same Multi Out port. The launch SCPH-1001 (NTSC-U) is unique for adding direct RCA jacks alongside the Multi AV; the front parallel I/O port hosts cheat/Action Replay devices but was removed on the PSone slim. There is no built-in optical, HDMI, or RF output.

Sony’s original 1994 PlayStation outputs video via the proprietary Multi AV — composite by default, RGB SCART or component via cable swap.

Notes & Compatibility

Models: SCPH-1000 (JP 1994), SCPH-1001 (NTSC-U 1995, adds direct RCA jacks), SCPH-1002 (PAL 1995). Uses several proprietary connectors not yet in the database — controller, memory card, serial I/O and parallel I/O ports are placeholder names for the post-batch connector-creation pass. The Parallel I/O port was removed starting with SCPH-7500 and is absent on the PSone slim. No built-in RF, optical, or HDMI.
