Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (2024)

Microsoft's redesigned Surface Laptop 7 adopts USB4 as its primary connectivity standard, with two USB4 ports replacing the legacy setup of previous generations. Both USB-C / USB4 ports support DisplayPort 1.4a, 65W Power Delivery, and data transfer at 40 Gbps. A USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) port and a microSD card reader handle legacy peripherals and memory cards. The proprietary Surface Connect port remains for docking station compatibility with older Surface accessories.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 with 2x USB4 (DP 1.4a, 65W PD), USB-A 3.1 Gen 2, microSD, Surface Connect, and 3.5mm jack.

Notes & Compatibility

Snapdragon X Elite / X Plus ARM platform: the USB4 ports are not Thunderbolt 4 certified despite 40 Gbps speeds, though Microsoft lists the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock among supported accessories. Both USB4 ports carry DisplayPort 1.4a, not DisplayPort 2.1; Microsoft’s tech specs and the 7th Edition feature page both say 1.4a. Fast charging needs a 65 W or higher supply over USB-C or Surface Connect: the 15-inch ships a 65 W charger, the 13.8-inch a 39 W one. The microSDXC Express reader is on the 15-inch only. The Surface Connect charging port isn’t listed in the port table.
